Did Kipling go tiger shooting?
Is that how he knew about tigers?
I answered these questions recently saying 'no, he never went tiger
shooting, so he must have got his information on tigers from books or
more likely word of mouth'.
The only description of a 'white man' tiger hunt as far as I know
is in 'The Tomb of his Ancestors' in 'The Day's Work' - on foot, not
elephants. There is nothing in 'Something of Myself', and I don't
recall any mention in biographies.
Can anyone illuminate? Where did Kipling get his information on
tigers (and wolves, red dogs and the rest) from?
