Dear list,
I am currently looking at the issue of on-line learning via computers in
the home and the different ways women and men occupy time and space with
the home computer/s.
While this is not directly history-child-family related, it does have
some connection with the ways in which technology in the home has
impacted on familial relations in the past- ie who owns / controls or
makes decisions about the purchase or consumption of the technology ?
who accesses it/ where is it situated ?(Fridge T.V. Telephone.
Internet.....) My research - again, while it is contemporary in focus,
could relate to the historical discussion of the impact in the home of
women's educational or personal development pursuits - ie arguments
about role of mother and technology either enhancing or disracting from
this role.
So, if any list member has information or contributions to share with
regard to this issue - please do so on the list.
And... if any of you are able to help me with my research ( and you are
or have contact with my target group - that is women learners who might
be called 'mature' who live alongside children, partners and other
extended 'family' and use home computers either in their learning or
personal development) then find an on-line questionnaire at the
following - http://panizzi.shef.ac.uk/med/cathy/survey.html - and
please spread the word. I am hoping to catch as many as possible before
the end of this semester.
Back soon with comments on the very useful and stimulating Delinquency
conference....
