>From Sturm und Drang to Baader-Meinhof:
Counter-Cultures in Germany and Central Europe
1770-1980
An International Conference to be held at the University of
Nottingham, 8-10 September 2000
Based on an interdisciplinary approach including German, historical
and cultural studies, the conference aims at investigating the extent
to which the key developments in German-speaking culture since the
Enlightenment have been counter-cultural, explicitly opposing a
dominant culture and actively striving to set up an alternative.
Papers are welcome on any aspect of the theme of counter-cultures in
the German-speaking world between the second half of the 18th century
and the 1970s. It is anticipated that a volume of conference papers
will be published in 2001.
Papers should be 30 minutes long. Please send your paper title and
short abstract (250 words) by 1 December 1999 to
