PhDs by Research and Taught Masters
Two research studentships in Comparative Social Research
We require suitably qualified candidates who can demonstrate an established
interest in either of the proposed areas of study. Both studentships will be
supervised by Professor Jochen Clasen and located in the newly established
Centre for Comparative Social Research.
A. Trust in public and private forms of social protection - a
cross-national analysis.
This is an ESRC CASE studentship in collaboration with Scottish Amicable.
Bursary will be at the ESRC rate plus £2,500 per annum.
B. Social Policy and social security - a comparative analysis.
This is an open invitation for PhD proposals in any area of cross-national
social security analysis. The studentship will be at ESRC rates.

One research studentship in Social Work
The role of the Church of Scotland Board of Social Responsibility in social
work policy and practice in Scotland.
This is an ESRC CASE studentship in collaboration with the Church of
Scotland Board of Social Responsibility. Bursary will be at the ESRC rate

Three studentships on the MSc in Applied Social Research
One ESRC quota award and two Departmental studentships at ESRC rates are
available for students with a good first degree wishing to complete this
ESRC recognised research training course.
