As I am an A-level Economics teacher and regular internet user, I was
very excited when I heard about Bized from one of my students. I was
particuarly interested in the Microsoft Powerpoint presentations he
mentioned. I have been using this software in the classroom for about 2
years now and have found it invaluable.
I was, however, extremely disappointed when I saw the quality of these
presentations. Although the creators obviously have a reasonable
knowledge of their subject, their computing skills leave much to be
desired. The worst offender seems to be one Geoff Riley. My main
criticisms of his work are as follows:
Garish colour schemes.
Poor slide transitions.
Poor use of sound and graphics.
Poor layout.
I do not lay the blame entirely with Geoff (he is of course to be
commended for his sterling effort). The Bized webmaster should never
have dreamed of publishing his work on the site until it had been
refined.
I personally think all of Geoff's Powerpoint presentations should be
removed immediately while he improves them (I'm sure a quick read of
'Microsoft Powerpoint for Dummies' will help him enormously). I know I
am not the only Bized user who feels his work has damaged the reputation
of this otherwise excellent site.
I hope I have not caused any offence and look forward to hearing the
rest of your views on this subject.
