Information about the institution where research took place, which is often
(but not always) synonymous with the contact information for the author, is
important and lasting information. Even as time passes, that research will
have been done at that institution, and this is a frequently used discovery
data element, as is the name of the funding institution or organization. In
many databases, the author's address serves this two-fold function of
contact info and institutional affiliation info, but we mustn't throw out
the baby with the bath -- that institutional info is useful.
