In MARC we are not only limited to only 1 field. Once the 1XX field is
entered we can add as many 7XX fields as needed and provide access
points for many individual, corporate, meeting, and other entities as
necessary. For some conference proceedings there will be access points
for an editor or 3, the meeting (or 2 if it is a joint meeting), and
some corporate sponsors. Corporate authors exist because corporations
are sometimes responsible or partly responsible for the intellectual
content of a work and it has proved nice to have them as an access
point. In DC we can also repeat the creator and contributor fields, we
lack the fine distinctions available in MARC but that is both a strength
and weakness of DC.
Sincerely,
David Bigwood
