Well... if there is a directory service out there that lists the
author's details, why not link to it?
I'm not saying we start making people put entries in directory services
for authors that don't already have entries in such services, but at
least if an entry exists out there somewhere, point to it. This helps
remove ambiguity.
If there's a bibliographic web site out there with details about the
author, would it be worth linking to the page about the author as a
surrogate for a directory entry?
The argument could be that once you've found the resource it would have
a similar entry in a specialist database. But... if there is no
specialist database with an entry for this resource, and there is no
directory entry for the creator, then would it be worth linking to some
bibliographic page as a means of identifying the author?
Or would this be one of those times when the action taken is up to the
cataloger to decide?
