Colleagues
As part of my doctoral research I am looking at the use and role of metaphor
in the interface
design of computer supported learning environments. I interpret learning
environment in the
broadest sense, to include, for example, collaborative environments,
conferencing, courseware,
profiling etc. My interest is primarily in implementation metaphors used to
define, differentiate and
encourage use (eg cafes, study centres, stadia, virtual campus etc), rather
than implicit metaphor
decisions taken early in the design process (eg computer as tool or medium).
I would like to hear from you if you have designed, used or are aware of
metaphor-based
interfaces for learning environments and are prepared to help by giving me:
- a short description of the environment and metaphor;
- the URL or other locator;
- an indication as to whether you would be willing to participate further,
through, for example, a
short questionnaire, email/phone/f2f interview.
It is probably best if you reply directly to me. I will undertake to collate
the responses and post
them back to the list. In the longer term I will also be posting to the list
a brief description of the
research outcomes.
I look forward to hearing from you.
