Call for Contributors
The Encyclopedia of Life Writing, edited by Dr. Margaretta Jolly
The Encyclopedia of Life Writing was commissioned in June 1998, and will
be published in 2000. It will be a large-scale guide to the various
forms of auto/biographical writing from around the world, and will
include entries on: genres and sub-genres; national/regional/language
traditions; important auto/biographical writers; as well as articles on
related areas such as oral history, anthropology, and testimonies. As
the interdisciplinary and broadly inclusive term "life writing"
suggests, the intent of this project is to explore not only
autobiography and biography, but also letters, diaries, memoirs, family
histories, case histories, and other ways in which individual lives have
been recorded. The entries will cover life writing from Classical times
to the present.
Approximately two-thirds of the 650 entries have been assigned, so I am
now looking for further contributions across a range of subject areas
and language/national traditions: all the unassigned entries appear
below, in alphabetical order. Entries vary in length from 750 words to
2,000 words. Each contributor will receive an honorarium, and all
entries are credited. Deadlines will depend on the number of entries
taken on and the project schedule.

can also apply for any of the unassigned entries from this site.
