I'm a fiction writer researching a story set in France
during the Aurignacian period, 32,000 years ago. The story
follows a band of Cro-Magnons, and I'm trying to show a
full, unromanticized picture of their lives. In my research,
one element was missing: I couldn't find what specific
varieties of plant foods they ate. I realize now that not
much is known about this subject, but I only need a few
examples. I don't want to take the lazy route and say they
ate generic tubers, greens, berries, seeds, etc. The story
has a scientific bent, and I'm trying to be as acurate as
possible. However, it's speculative fiction, so speculation
is welcome. Any plant food remains from France or
surrounding regions in Europe during the Upper Paleolithic
would probably be close enough. Potential plant food sources
would also suffice. I've spent weeks trying to track this
one detail down, and I'm desperate. Perhaps someone can tell
me where I can find this information. Scientific literature
would be fine; I've done quite a bit of research, and I can
understand enough to get what I need. I would be grateful
for any help I can get.
