Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to inform you that the deadline has been extended for
submissions of abstracts for a SECOND Italian panel devoted to
"Anthropological Themes and Approaches" to be
held at the 69th Annual Convention of the South Atlantic Modern Language
Association of America (4-6 November 1999, Atlanta, Georgia).
We invite proposals for 20-minute papers (unpublished and not previously
presented at professional meetings) in either Italian or English, adopting
anthropological readings of Italian literature and culture from 1600 to
the present, and/or addressing such topics as (but not exclusively) myth,
exoticism, primitivism, regionalism, folklore, material culture,
sacrifice, ritual, magic, the sacred, symbolic economies. We also welcome
proposals discussing the above issues in a comparative framework,
involving Italian literature and culture in a dialogue with other national
traditions.
Please send a 250-word abstract and a brief CV by May 5, 1999
to
