Thanks to Brendan Gleeson, for making the comment. I agree that attachments
do not belong on mailbase lists.
In my understanding, (this is for Daniel Knox) solicited attachments are
those which were agreed upon previously by the parties involved. The more
apt analogy might be buying a box of jelly babies (whatever those
are--forgive an American's ignorance) and claiming not to have solicited any
cockroaches--an appropriate complaint.
I have often sent and received images, Word documents and other files by
attachment, but only when both parties knew what they were getting. Since
messages to lists are all "unsolicited" attachments are really never
appropriate. If the document is text it should be embedded. If in some
other form, include a URL where it can be found.
