Gday Tony
Come on mate...athletes using hGH are not lauded. And the use of any drug
can have deleterious side-effects, even when used in accordance with
manufacturers instructions. What about Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or liver
damage with a wide variety of drugs?
The Australian Sports Drug Agency is engaged to detect the banned drugs.
Then the ASDA informs the national body of the athlete's sport, who take
action against the athlete. So we had one case of a pistol shooter being
rubbed out for using a stimulant that would only worsen his performance!

Subject: drugs in sport
Dear Katrina,
The problem with drug use in sport is that not everyone is equal before
the law.The person who uses a detectable drug is banishedfrom sport but the
person using HGH or creatine is lauded when both are doing effectively the
same thing- using an extraneous substance to improve performance, actually
doping. The problem is doping and all should be equal before the law.
Doping is the use to improve performance of any substance not normally
present in the body, the use of a substance normally present in the body
but taken in an abnormal manner or amount or the use of any abnormal
mechanism. This definition puts all users inthe same class and makes them
equal before the law, hopeless and all as it is. It is important that we
treat everyone equally.
There is no danger in using drugs , it is the abuse that is harmful. The
present immoral system leads to use of undetectable drugs in the
underground situation which is perilous.
Fairness does not enter the equation as there is no level playing field -
genetic, commercial and training factors are all examples of unfairness. We
need a moral position to provide fairness in this area. The recent IOC
decision to legalise Creatine and not HMB shows how there is a total lack
of reason in the drug area needing a clean-up.
Best of luck.
sincerely
Anthony Millar
