Perhaps someone from Sage Scolari would like to comment. But my
understanding has always been that with the NUD*IST software you are allowed
to have one copy installed on your work pc and one copy installed on your
home pc. The logic is that you can only work on one copy at one time
(therefore you cannot let someone else use your work copy while you are
working on your home copy). However, your university will have to decide how
to distribute the licenses.
One solution is to sign out one license to you which you would install on
both your university and home pc. They should ask you to sign a statement
that when you finish your research or leave the university you would
uninstall the NUDIST software from your home pc. However, they might not
want to sign out licences as that would restrict their use to only 10 users.
Whereas, if they just kept the 10 licenses on the network while only 10
users could use NUDIST at any one time, there could be any number of
individual users.
Personally, I agree that when you are doing research, you want to be able to
work on your project at home. As your university has just bought the
package, they might need some time to assess demand for it. I would
suggest that you canvass some opinion to see if other researchers, like you,
would prefer to be able to work on their research at home. Then put your
viewpoint to whoever in your university bought the software. This is really
a case of how your university decides to manage the licenses. As I
understand it, the license agreement will allow you to do what you want.
But you may want to check with Sage Scolari about that. Their number is
0171-330-1222.
