BRISBANE TO HOST DEAF CONFERENCE
Deaf gays and lesbians from around the world will meet in Brisbane in
July for the Fifth National Conference of Australian Deaf Gays and
Lesbians.
Under the theme Towards 2000 International Deaf Gay and Lesbian
Community, the organising body, the Australian Deaf Gay and Lesbian
Association (ADGLA), aims to create a strong bond with international
deaf gay and lesbian associations.
ADGLA says the main aim of the conference is to explore both deaf and
gay and lesbian issues and issues of self-esteem.
"Our ultimate goal is to b a bridge between the hearing and deaf gay and
lesbian communities to allow meaningful cultural exchange, interaction
and to foster and promote understanding," ADGLA says.
The conference, which runs from July 20th to the 23rd, is open to
hearing people as well as the deaf, and Auslan interpreters will be
provided.
Readers interested in attending the conference should contact the
Convenor of ADGLA, PO Box 2027, Salisbury East Q 4107 as soon as
possible.
