SHORT COURSE: Imputation methods for item nonresponse

Course Objectives: a) To review different imputation methods used to
handle missing data in surveys;
b) to provide guidance on how to develop an imputation strategy and
how to analyses data in the presence of imputed values.
Course Content :
This course will include the following topics:
Approaches to handling item nonresponse, methods of imputation,
including hot-deck and regression imputation, evaluating imputation
methods, imputation with many variables, analysis of data in the
presence of imputed values, and variance estimation and multiple
imputation.
Target Audience:
The course is aimed at people wishing to improve their general
education in survey methodology and those considering using imputation
with data sets containing missing data and those wishing to analyse
datasets containing missing values.
Course Materials:
Participants will receive copies of the overhead transparencies and a
reading list.
The Instructor:
Chris Skinner is Professor of Social Statistics at the University of
Southampton and Deputy Director of the Centre for Applied Social
Surveys. He has research interests in the design and analysis of
sample surveys and has acted as consultant on the design of surveys in
academic research, government and market research.
Fee:
125 pounds sterling (includes course materials, lunch, morning and
afternoon tea). Because of ESRC support, a number of bursaries are
available which reduce the fee to 35 pounds sterling - applicants must
be UK full-time students, UK academic staff or ESRC-funded
researchers.
