URGENT APPLICATIONS ARE SOUGHT FOR THE POST OF:
Research Manager : Part -Time - One year Contract
Social Science graduate required for a part-time post in London, managing a
project, funded by The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, on the political
origins and economic implications of welfare reform in the UK and Ireland.
The director of the project in the UK is Professor Bill Jordan of Exeter and
Huddersfield Universities. The leading partner in Ireland is Dr Sean Healy
of CORI, Dublin. Professor Charles Clark of Saint John's University, New
York, USA will conduct the economic analysis. Further details of the project
are available on application.
The research manager will be based in the Citizen's Income Study Centre at
the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Research experience, preferably with a multi-disciplinary team, is a
requirement. Experience in qualitative methods is preferable.
Salary will be on Research Assistant 0.4 Scale pro rata. The research
manager will be assisted by one or more volunteers and will have a budget
for typing and other administrative expenses.

Job description:
The duties of the research manager will be as follows:
1. To access and supply quantitative data for the research team in the
UK.
2. To monitor and co-ordinate the different parts of the project, and
ensure that good liaison is achieved between them.
3. To operate a 'communications centre' in London for the whole
project, supplying all team members with up-to-date information, fax and
e-mail links, about work in progress.
4. To arrange meetings between the members of the research team, and
book transport and accommodation where necessary.
5. To take part in meetings of the research team in London, and
participate in discussion of data and reviews of work in hand.
6. To participate in the team's writing up of its findings and
co-ordination of its report and output.
7. To liaise with the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust over payments
and progress reports, etc.
8. To arrange meetings of the Advisory Group, and book meeting places,
travelling arrangements, etc.
9. To contact and arrange meetings with research subjects, and to
arrange dissemination exercises (under the Director's guidance).
10. To liaise with the Citizen's Income Trust over payment of invoices
for fees and expenses.
