Dear colleagues,
For those of you interested in the financial side of the
industry-environment relationship, I highly recommend a new book by my
colleague Brad Gentry.
Private Capital Flows and the Environment: Lessons from Latin America
looks at the environmental impact of private capital flows into four Latin
American countries. What emerges are some important insights into, first,
how these flows affect the environment (with some surprises), and, second,
how public and private agents can work together to accommodate both
commerical gain and improved environmental performance. Given the degree
to which private capital flows now dominate multi-lateral lending, this can
only be of increasing importance to questions of improved environmental
performance.
