I am in contact with several families who all have young people with
disabilities approaching the school leaving age. All the young people will
require significant support if they are to live independently from their
families. These young people are friends and would like to live together.
The parents are concerned that if their children are deemed suitable to
receive support to live independently from their families, that they may
have limited choice as to who they live with.
The parents are prepared to provide a suitably adapted house, and are
planning to approach the service providers to try and negotiate the
provision of appropriate services. Does anyone have any experience of
negotiating services in this way, and if so do they have any hints, or
warnings of potential pitfalls?
Thanks
