First, I want to congratulate John Kunze on the work that he has invested in
the DC in HTML Internet Draft[1]. This is an important milestone for us,
providing a framework for a solid specification on how DC should be done in
HTML. This document has received a lot of favorable attention from the many
people who have been awaiting guidance on how to proceed.
It is important to realize, however, that we are not done. As John himself
has said to me, it is critical that we refine this document in light of
implementation experience to assure ourselves and our constituents that we
have done it right and it will serve our expectations.
So, I urge those with the interest and expertise (especially implementers)
to give this document careful attention if you have not yet done so. Does
it make clear what you need to do? Is it complete? Do the examples serve
appropriate pedagogical goals, and are they correct?
We would like to move this document tothe next stage of standardization.
Towards that end, I am proposing a comment period to last through the end of
April. At that time, John expects to revise the document and start it down
the IETF RFC pipeline. It would be great to announce this success at the
WWW meeting in Toronto in May.
regards,
