ESRC COLLABORATIVE STUDENTSHIP
Applications are invited from well-qualified candidates for a
three-year research studentship leading to a PhD and available from
October 1999. The project title is "The role of regional trade union
organisations in regional policy and governance: the case of the
Northern Region Trades Union Congress (TUC) in the North East region
of England". The research will examine and develop the role of
regional trade union organisations in regional policy and governance
in the context of social partnership and regionalisation within the
UK, focusing on the case of the Northern TUC in the North East region
of England.
The project will use participant observation in the Northern TUC and
interaction with its constituent trades unions, semi-structured
interview techniques and comparative case studies to explore the
experience of regional trade union organisations in other regions in
the UK and elsewhere in Europe.
Applications are welcome from candidates with Masters or first/upper
second class honours degrees.
The normal ESRC grant will be supplemented by an award of £1,375 per
