FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS
IHC'99 -- 2nd WORKSHOP on Human Factors in Computer-Based Systems:
Bridging the gap between people and computers
October 17-19, 1999 - CAMPINAS, SP - BRAZIL
This year, IHC'99 will take place in association with SIBGRAPI'99.
IHC'99 will be held at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in
Campinas,
Sao Paulo, Brazil. This is the second Brazilian event in the area of
Human-Computer Interaction.
The event is a major forum for discussion, exchange of information
and fostering of knowledge about how people interact with computers
and with each other through the computer as well as how to design
computer-based interactive systems that meet the human needs.
Researchers, practitioners, members from academia and
students are invited to explore and contribute to bridge the gap
between people and computers.
Session Organization
--------------------
Different kinds of activities will take place: paper and poster
presentations, panel, tutorial, case studies, and invited speakers.
A selection of invited National and International speakers will
highlight important and developing areas. Invited speakers already
confirmed: Prof. Lucy Suchman from Xerox Palo Alto Research Center and
Prof. Mark D. Gross from University of Colorado's Department of
Planning
and Design and Institute for Cognitive Science.
Topic Areas

Human-Computer Interaction includes many interests and perspectives.
To meet the broad and diverse community, IHC'99 invites the submission
of original papers (not submitted elsewhere), related to HCI. Topics
that address this theme include, but are not limited to the following:
. Theoretical fundamentals of HCI
. Methods for interface analysis, specification, design, and
evaluation
. Ergonomics and usability issues
. Techniques for observing users
. Interaction, communication, and computer semiotics
. New classes of applications and users
. HCI learning
. Support for learning environments
. Support for users with disabilities
. Support for cooperative work
. Support for virtual reality communication
. Support for WWW applications
. Information representation, visualization and animation
. state-of-the-art technologies for interface
. Tools and environments for design and development
