Enterprise Solutions Unit (ESU) at RAL has three vacancies for well
qualified,
highly motivated information systems engineers in the following areas:
* RDBMS and/or WWW interface design/programming to provide solutions to a
range of MIS-related problems, in both production and R&D environments.
* Research, development and application in the areas of business process and
workflow management systems.
Knowledge of other, related areas could be an advantage. Experience with
topics such as requirements analysis, system architecture design, and
object-

additional training will be provided as necessary.
The ideal candidates will possess a good degree or equivalent experience,
with a background of software development in a relevant area. They should
be capable of working as part of a team with a mixture of backgrounds (some
projects involve European consortia). The ability to work well with
customers and colleagues is expected. Some of the positions involve travel,
mainly in Europe.
Overall, ESU's role is to provide effective solutions to enterprise-wide
problems, primarily by innovative exploitation of business process, WWW,
and information management technologies. The Unit, with 12 members of
staff currently, has a range of projects, from development of WWW-based
management information services for CCLRC, to European-funded R & D projects
with foci on business process, workflow management, and Computer-Supported
Co-operative Working.
ESU is one of the units within Information Systems Engineering Division,
which undertakes R&D in a wide range of IT areas. The Division is part of
the Department for Computation and Information, the main IT department for
the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils. Further information on the
work of the Unit is available from the CCLRC Web at:

A non-contributory pension scheme, flexible working hours and a generous
leave allowance are also offered.
