RESEARCH STUDENTSHIP
UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE
Department of Engineering / Computer Laboratory
Computer Assistance for Motion-Impaired Users
The primary aim of this research is to provide an understanding of
human-computer interaction for those whose motion impairments prohibit the
direct application of conventional user descriptions and for whom the
traditional keboard/mouse/monitor arrangement presents unnecessary
difficulties.
We are seeking a PhD student on a 3 year Research Studentship, funded to
CASE level. It is anticipated that the studentship will begin in the
Autumn of 1999.
The student will investigate novel input systems for users with motion
impairments. This will involve the development of techniques for
evaluating the effectiveness of existing input devices and the design and
assessment of more innovative devices. The student will study and design
multi-modal input systems and assess their suitability for the target user
group.
The candidate should have at least an Upper Second class honours degree in
Computer Science or Information Engineering and will need very good
communication skills to deal with patients during user trials.
