Press release from Doctors.net.uk. If you would rather not receive future
  news please email me.

Thank you to all those of you who have supported the development of
Doctors.net.uk. In the next few months there will be a number of new
information resources added to the service.

  Neil

  March 8, 1999

UK=92s largest online medical community provides
free access to the Cochrane Database of Clinical Trials.

In a move designed to improve patient care across the country
Doctors.net.uk, the UK=92s largest online medical community now provides
full access to the entire Cochrane database for every doctor completely
  free of charge.

The Cochrane Database, widely accepted as the best single source of
reliable evidence regarding the effects of health care in the world, has
previously only been available by subscription - putting it beyond the
reach of many junior doctors. It is these very doctors who are having to
make decisions about the sickest patients and who need quick access to
up-to-date information at the bedside. This new service from
Doctors.net.uk allows all doctors to search for the best evidence from
any computer connected to the Internet and at no cost - ensuring that
treatment can be based on the latest research.

Dr Neil Bacon, Medical Director of Doctors.net.uk, said:

=93Prior to the launch of this service we had a bizarre situation where
doctors treating the sickest new-born babies were often unable to
easily find the information they needed, whilst employees of every
drug company could access the information at the click of a mouse.=94

=93Making the Cochrane database available is just the latest of our
moves to ensure better access to information for all doctors, and so
     improve healthcare for all patients.=94

=93By providing doctors with access to an ever increasing number of high
quality information resources we aim to support the development and
expansion of Clinical Governance across the country=94.

  About doctors.net.uk:

Doctors.net.uk is the UK=92s leading online medical community. Created to
modernise communication and improve access to the best medical knowledge
for all clinicians, it now has a membership of over 8000 doctors. All of
its services - including Medline, Cochrane and a job-finding service, are
free to members. Membership is completely free of charge.
