I see no need to post binaries to the list - at least initially. It is
a simple task to offer something to the list then email it out
personally to those who show an interest. Or even then to the list if
there is a lot of demand.
******Better still********* - most ISPs provide web-space so just dump
it on there and give out the URL. This does not entail the donor being
a Webmaster - the site does not need to be elegant but just contain the
file (displayed or just listed) then whoever wants it can download it
via their browser, at a time suitable to themselves - and then virus
check it.
On.jpg's - it is a while since I refreshed my knowledge on this - but if
I recall correctly then it is possible to make them auto-display on
opening a message. It is now possible to hide other executables as
jpegs - so I guess if this were combined with the auto-open function
then the risk goes up considerably.
I have never had a virus - I run Doc Sols and scan everything. The
maximum and openly stated penalty for my staff breaching our security
protocol is summary dismissal - after all, this is patient data we are
protecting.
Cheers :)
