The physiotherapy deartment at the National Hospital in Oslo has
determined that an important aim for the department is to develop
physiotherapy practice at the hospital. This aim shall be reached by
developing knowledge within physiotherapy through research and
developmental work, as well as to stimulate the reflective processes by the
physiotherapists working in the department.
There are about 70 physiotherapists at the department. They are serving
most of the medical diciplines at the hospital. Three positions are
established for physiotherapists on PhD-level. Up- to-day two of these
positions are settled. One has a PhD - degree within orthopedics and one
within rheumatology. They also have a speciality within physiotherapy
practice, respectively in sport medicine and manual therapy. The third
posession is vacant for a professor. We hope that the employment process
will be finished during the spring time. In addition to the work within the
physiotherapy department, the researchers also have a cooperation with the
University to give lectures, supervise master and doctorial students.
So far the researchers have been working within the departments of
orthodecs and rheumatology. We are rather satisfied with the preliminary
results of the work in order to improve physiotherapy knowledge and the
clinical practice. One important explanation for the success is believed
that they know these fields and the people working there pretty well.
However, there are a some concerned about the future and the increased
responsibility.
My questions to you are: Are there anyone among you that are occupied with
similar issues? What are your concerns, how do you reach your aims, and how
are you evaluated?
Yours sincerely
