Re: request for journal:
I have the article Harrison, RA and Bulstrode s (1987). Percentage

here's an abstracted version from the Aquatic Resources Network's
AquaBullets (summaries of aquatic therapy research)

Hope this helps.

Title: Harrison, RA, Bulstrode S (1987). Percentage weight-bearing during
partial immersion in the hydrotherapy pool. Physiotherapy Practice, 3,
60-63
Purpose: To describe percentage weight bearing during various levels of
immersion.
Methods: Subjects (N=18), mean age not described although information was
collected, 7 males, 11 females. The following information was collected on
each subject: age, sex, height, body fat (calculated by formula based on
circumferential measurements). Body fat ranged from 10.7%-29%. The authors
constructed a spring balance on an extension arm to hover over the pool.
Subjects placed hands on two immersed handles and unloaded their feet so
that their body weight was supported entirely through their upper
extremities and thus through the spring balance. All subjects weighed on
land with the spring balance and then three different immersion levels were
tested for each subject: C7, xiphosternum, and anterior superior iliac spine
(ASIS) levels.
Statistical analyses: Not performed. Data was described as raw scores and
averages for males and females.
Results: Signficant findings:
Immersion to C-7: Males: 6.8%-10% total body weight bearing.
Immersion to C-7: Females: 5.9%-8.7% total body weight bearing.
Immersion to xiphosternum: Males: 30%-37% total body weight bearing.
Immersion to xiphosternum: Females: 25%-31% total body weight bearing.
Immersion to ASIS: Males: 50%-56% total body weight bearing.
Immersion to ASIS: Females: 40%-51% total body weight bearing.
Discussion: Variations in physical build and body composition of subjects
only minimally affect weight bearing values.
Medical Diagnoses: Normals
Functional Areas: Weight bearing
