As some of you will know, PHYSIO is part of the UK Mailbase
system, which runs 2000+ email discussion lists. While funding of
the UK Mailbase system is secure until 2000, funding for the Mailbase
service after then is under review, and this is a cause for concern.
Not only would the loss of the value-added support which Mailbase
gives to lists and list-owners, (for example WWW service, email
archives, training, etc) have a serious effect on the quality
of the list, but if funding were to be withdrawn, then there is the
possibility that PHYSIO might cease to exist.
As a member of MBUG, the Mailbase User group which comprises the
Mailbase team and 5 listowners, I have been closely involved, over
the last 6 months, in the discussions regarding the future of
Mailbase, and MBUG now considers that it is time to go public and
alert list members.
The funding body has employed a consultant to conduct a survey of 500
randomly picked list owners/members, and it might be that you are one
of them. Please take the time to respond if you receive such a
survey.
Please check out the Mailbase WWW pages for more information about
the system:

I will be contacting you again to suggest possible courses of action
that you can take, to help preserve Mailbase and the PHYSIO list.
Stay tuned!
