Dear Ian
We have a lot of problems with DNA's in certain areas of our Trust and often
the same problem of no telephone numbers. What we are currently doing in
these areas, is sending a note out with the first appointment in the post.
This states that if the appointment is not confirmed in the stated time
(usually 5 days) then the appointment will be reallocated.
This system has only been running for a short time and so the real results
are not yet apparent. The plus sides are that it encourages patient
responsibility-something we are hopefully all aiming for and there are far
fewer slots wasted. The downside is the increased workload for the admin
staff (often unpopular if the sessions are held at the GP's surgery)
Claire MCSP.
