Can any listmember help with this query please - The letter is written by
John Bing and his wife Mary Bing - (they each wrote one part) to his
sister Ellen, addressed to Mr Joseph Allington of Yoxall, Lichfield.
20th August, 1838
John Bing, Sunday School opposite St Mary's Church Rotherhithe, Surrey
"we are busy working in the Yard from 5 to 7 so that I don't know when we
shall have the opportunity to come to Stafford...."
First question : does anyone have access to a Kelly's or other directory
which would give information about this man and/or his 'Yard?
Second question
Both John and Mary refer to the death of the local Doctor Blick, who was
'thrown out of his gig last night and died immediately' - that would have
been August 19th, 1838....
This would surely not have been reported in "the Times", but would there
have been a local newspaper for the Rotherhithe area which would have
carried the report of the accident and his burial which was held on the
following saturday?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
The whole letter is fascinating, and if anyone is interested we could
provide a transcript and/or a scanned image.
