TWO MAJOR NEW INTERNET RESOURCES FOR ARCHAEOLOGY
from the
BRITISH AND IRISH ARCHAEOLOGICAL BIBLIOGRAPHY (BIAB)
____________________________________________________
1. BIAB WEB PAGES
<http://www.britarch.ac.uk/biab/>
The BIAB web pages have been re-designed and considerably expanded. They
now contain everything you ever wanted to know about bibliographic data for
Britain and Ireland. This includes information on the scope, aims,
background and history of the BIAB project, along with extensive details of
archaeological serial publications, and contact details of archaeology
publishers and/or editors.
(The BIAB Web pages are hosted by the British Academy)

2. BIAB ON-LINE DATABASE
via <http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/>
The BIAB online database is now available.
Containing nearly 100,000 references to material published between AD 1695
and June 1991, this unparalleled body of information is made available in
the first instance in a free-text search only format.
The searchable material includes everything published in:
* The CBA's `British Archaeological Abstracts' (1968-91)
* The CBA's `Archaeological Bibliography for Great Britain and Ireland'
(1940-80)
* Gomme's `Index of Archaeological Papers' (1695-1910)
To search the British & Irish Archaeological Bibliography database you must
first go to the ADS Catalogue (http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/) and
follow the links to the Special Collections to select the BIAB database.
[NB: This is a pilot version of the database. Further work is already
underway to convert the references into a structured searchable database,
which we hope to index in due course. Post-1991 references will also be
made available, though not necessarily via a free Internet service. Future
options will, to a large extent, depend on reactions to the pilot database.]
(The BIAB online database is hosted by the Archaeology Data Service)
