Dear mailbase subscribers,

The first day of the discussion group has been successful since the number
of subscribers is rising at a constant pace. Since we have just updated the
introductory file, which contains vital information's on the use of the
list, we forward it again to all of you.
We expect the activity of the list to rise shortly, and hope it will
complement with real time exchange of information the existing web sites of
"econophysics".

Welcome to FINANCE AND PHYSICS

The relationship between economics and the physical sciences has a long and
interesting history. Outstanding economists of the past explicitly inspired
their work to the principles of Newtonian physics and statistical mechanics,

attracted by the success of these theories.

However, despite the existence of many problems of common interest, the
interaction between statistical physicists and economists has never been
strong.
Only in recent times physicists and economists started talking to each other

more and more frequently.

The emerging field of econophysics applies the powerful methods of
statistical
physics and non-linear dynamics to macroeconomic modelling and financial
market
analysis.
