The three different categories of SME (medium-sized, small and micro)
are defined in a Recommendation of the Commission:
96/280/EC: Commission Recommendation of 3 April 1996 concerning the
definition of small and medium-sized enterprises
Official journal NO. L 107 , 30/04/1996 P. 0004 - 0009
This Recommendation itself gives no specific legal rights to the
different categories of SME, but Member States and EU financial
institutions are invited to comply with the definitions when
implementing programmes directed at SMEs.
The information needs of SMEs in relation to EU affairs are served by
the Euro Info Centre Network, which includes a Euro Info Correspondence
Centre in Estonia, which you could contact for further information:
