Hello gILL,
Re your colleague and coping strategies of hidden disabilities.
Perhaps he may consider coping strategies used by people who are in the process of losing their sight. I personally spent my last year of work as a "fooly sighted person" with the most elaborate
strategies to avoid my clients detecting that I couldn't see
"quite" as well as I had. (Memory, perception, image management, creativity, survival instinct, taking control and organization were important and interesting for me although I didn't fully realise it then). Surprisingly I got away with it most of the
time, but often felt uneasy about having to "perform" in this manner. I was not in denial of my impending sight loss, but I was finding a way of transition which would accomodate my own needs with those in the world of abstract responsibilities such as
business, insurance and financial obligations etc.
Best regards,
Joseph
