Hi everyone.
Following on from all the complaints and moans about publishing in the past
on this list, I have something more positive. I have just come across a
superb initiative, which some of you may already know, that seems to be
trying to break the strangle hold of conventional academic publishing. It
is I think something we as Critical geographers ought to be supporting.
Here is how they describe themselves:
The ICAAP Mission -
ICAAP is a Canadian initiative dedicated to the development of an
international alternative scholarly communication system outside of the
commercial mainstream. ICAAP journals are freeware or low cost shareware
publications.
Standards -
A central objective of ICAAP is to promote a model of high quality
scholarly communication free from the heavy costs of printing,
distribution, and administration associated with the publication of print
and commercial journals.
The Craft -
The official organ of ICAAP. Publishes technical pieces, scholarly articles
on scholarly publication, and other material designed to ease the
transition for individual scholars and institutions seeking to break the
grip of the commercial presses.
