In respones to H Rydins question about the phrase 'red
bog' and Nicki Whitehouses suggestion that it could be a
reference to red moss species.
Another possibility is the redish colour you can get
from Eriophorum. In a paper in a rather obscure local
history journal in 1993 (Brycheiniog vol 26, 17-41.)
Fred Slater and myselfe suggested that many of the Welsh
peatlands called Gors Goch could get their name for this
reason.
