2nd CALL FOR ABSTRACTS AND PARTICIPATION
-------------------------------------------
ENSURING USABLE INTELLIGENT USER INTERFACES
March 10. 1999
in conjunction with the i3 Spring Days'99
http://www.dfki.de/imedia/workshops/i3-spring99/
at Hotel Calipolis, Sitges, Spain
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
We have extended the deadline for position papers to 19 February 1999.
1. WHAT THE WORKSHOP IS ABOUT:
The workshop will review existing methodology of user centred design and
usability engineering in the light of innovative intelligent information
interfaces (the central mission of i3 related initiatives and projects).
The workshop will happen in the course of the i3 spring days, which will
establish and maintain connections of different projects that are
dealing with innovative design methods. Especially this workshop shall
help designers, user interface engineers and usability engineers to
exchange experiences and to think of improved and new methodological
approaches. Trying to find answers to the following questions will be
the key factor of this workshop:
What techniques are available in the field of usability engineering,
what are the methods and techniques already used, what are the
experiences on that in particular for innovative approaches and what are
advantages and disadvantages? Do we have the right methodology at hand
to prove and improve innovative concepts from the usage viewpoint?. Do
we have to extend available techniques and develop new approaches. The
workshop should bring together usability engineering experts and
interaction innovators to share experiences and viewpoints towards an
intelligent information interfaces usability engineering inventory.
2. TOPICS:
-) Is the iterative design process a way for any kind of product design?
What are the alternatives?
-) Analyses, Design, Prototyping, Evaluation: Which of these steps need
to be adopted, which shouldn't be changed anyway?
-) What are the already known methods and tools within above mentioned
phases to achieve innovative and usable systems.
-) Adaptation of "state of the art methods" for innovative products and
design processes:
Are adaptations possible?
Which kind of methods can be used for adaptations like these?
Which kind of problems are possible and should be marked?
-) Experiences in dealing with intelligent information interfaces from
the usability engineering perspective.
3. SUBMITTING AN ABSTRACT AND WORKSHOP PARTICIPATION
If you would like to contribute to this workshop please submit a
20-lines abstract. Your abstract should include:
Title of the contribution
Name of author(s), affiliation, and contact address
A brief description of the issues that you would like to raise at the
workshop.
An indication whether you intend to show a demo or a video
The deadline for submitting abstracts is February 19. 1999.
Please send your abstract via email to:
mailto:[log in to unmask] , Reinhard Sefelin, CURE - CENTER FOR USABILITY
RESEARCH & ENGINEERING, AT
Workshop attendance will be limited. We will give preference to those
people who have submitted an abstract and who are willing to present
their work. If a selection of contributions has to be made, this will be
done by the members of the organization committee on the basis of the
information provided in the abstracts. Invited participants will be
given an opportunity to present their work and are encouraged to bring
demonstration prototypes or videos, demos etc. with them. To a certain
extend, participation without giving a presentation is possible. In any
case, the organizers appreciate an indication of interest in
participation at the earliest time.
