Carlos,
Thanks for your prompt response. May I ask a few more questions.
You said:
I manage a MIU in the Victoria Hospital in Lewes. I visit about once a
week. I agree all the protocols and procedure manuals. The comunity trust
then approved them thus giving vicarious liability to the nurse
practitioner's working there.
Whose responsibility is it to answer complaints and make police statements?
it is staffed by four NP's grade F.
What do you or would you do if there was an acute staff crises e.g.
maternity leave + compassionate leave + illness, combined?
Would you get locum doctors to cover the unit? Whose responsibility is it to
sort out staffing problems?
I audit samples of the notes on a regular basis. Some twenty sets of notes
every
two weeks to see adherence to protocol and any problems. The NP's are
supported from the parent A&E Dept by telephone. They ring the consultant
bleep holder for advise. The unit is open for 12 hours 9 to 9 pm. So far
aftre more than six years of operation we have had no problems with
litigation. Carlos
Are you allowed to discipline your NP's if this is needed, if not who would
perform this duty?
