Statement from Youth & Students for Mumia
--Millions for Mumia Mobilization:
Justice for Amadou Diallo & All Victims of Police Brutality!
Youth & Students for Mumia Abu-Jamal stands in firm solidarity with
the protests in communities nationwide that have arisen as a response
to vicious and racist acts of police brutality.
We oppose and denounce the brutal slaying of Amadou Diallo, a 22
year-old Guinean youth killed on February 4th when four racist,
bloodthirsty NYC cops hailed bullets on this young unarmed brother.
We oppose and denounce the cold-blooded killing of 19 year-old Tyisha
Shenee Miller, a young African-American sister sprayed with ruthless
gunfire by the cops in Riverside, CA as she sat in a disabled car,
apparently suffering a seizure.
We oppose and denounce the horrific and vicious beating of JoLea
Lamot, a young Latina and out transsexual woman who was repeatedly
slammed into a wall and beaten by NYC cops after paramedics were
called to her home.
We oppose and denounce the long history of abuse perpetrated by police
against oppressed communities across the country. We vow to continue
our struggle to stop the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal in the name of
Amadou Diallo, Tyisha Shenee Miller, Jolea Lamot, let us not forget
Anthony Baez and ALL victims of police brutality, racism and all forms
of oppression.
Mumia Abu-Jamal is a former Black Panther and lifelong fighter against
racism, repression and police brutality who was framed for killing a
Philadelphia police officer in 1981. Mumia is a political prisoner
who has been on death row for the last 17 years.
The state of Pennsylvania wants to execute Mumia. We are fighting for
a new trial for Mumia! Among those who support Mumias struggle are
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Ron Hampton, executive director of the
National Black Police Association, the European Parliament and Amnesty
International.
Youth & students need to stand with Mumia...
Because Amadou Diallo, Tyisha Shenee Miller, JoLea Lamot and countless
other youth and students are harassed, beaten, and executed by the
cops on a daily basis. Mumia represents our fight against racism,
repression and police brutality.
Because youth & students are denied equal access to education and
decent-paying jobs! Mumia represents our right to affordable
education and jobs, not prisons.
Because Mumia is a fighter against ALL oppression. It is time for us,
as people of color, women, lesbians, gay, bisexual and trans people,
workers on strike, and immigrants to take a stand with Mumia.
Because youth & students need to be part of a revolutionary struggle
for change! Mumia represents our right to speak out & protest
injustice!
We are part of the national Millions for Mumia mobilization for
April 24, 1999, in Philadelphia and San Francisco.
We say, Justice for Amadou Diallo! Justice for Tyisha Shenee Miller!
Justice for JoLea Lamot! Free Mumia Abu-Jamal! Fight back against
racist police brutality--March for JUSTICE on April 24th!
