There was a 25th anniversary Woodstock festival on just about the
same site in up state New York in 1994 and it was derided all through
the music pres becasue it was basically a corporate junket with over
priced beer, limited access to a lot of the site (the geography of
the ID badge anyone?) and it did not have any of the atmos of the
original, nor any of the alternative counter culture vibe (there
were few if any dance acts) and most of the bands were pseudo
alternative middle of the road pap.
Kinda reinforces your point about capitalist production of
commodities and also the retro chic culture we seem to have (as
an aside it is infuriating to hear people talking about 80s discos as
some sort of cultural phenomenon: when are they going to realise
that, with a few notable exceptions, music in the 80s was crap).
