Code-A-Text also provides a wide range of statistical features to describe
texts and segments of texts. The raw data from Code-A-Text can be used
with SPSS. Data on words and word groups can be output alone but also in a
mixed format which allows other forms of code to be included. On the
demonstration CD ROM, as part of the Multimedia Workshop, a project is
described which examines the changes in evaluative language over a course
of psychotherapy. Six original categories were developed by the author
and then the coding done by the programme. This was output to SPSS and
factor analysed and then the results validated by examination of examples
in the text.
Although the current version of Code-A-Text does not provide a complete
cluster analysis of words you can develop a range of statistics for the
analysis of individual words. For instance you can highlight a key word
such as "I" and then automatically select every sentence containing the
word. A range of statistics describing the sentences is then available.
