The following is a post I have just sent to my 2 lists spelling out rather
carefully how one goes at 'UNsubscribing' from them. (This information has
also been carried for some time in my signature block but it appears to go
unnoticed there.)
While the text below is the one sent to my Poverty of Nations list, the
other one--to my Land-Reform List--was identical EXCEPT that the
'unsubscribe' command for the latter substitutes 'land-reform' for
'poverty-nations,' and thus reads as follows:
[log in to unmask]
The Econ-Soc-Devt list itself is of course NOT on either of my lists. And
if you think you've somehow personally gotten onto one of them--and don't
WANT to be there--by all means use these two 'unsubscribe' commands to
remove yourself from them. (Please not carefully the instructions in the
post below.)
If you're not on them but would LIKE to be, again just drop the 'un' and
send the same single-line command, to wit:
[log in to unmask]
The world's poor need all the policy guidance they can get.

Let me make sure that everyone on this list knows how to 'unsubscribe'
himself from it.
TO UNSUBSCRIBE: Send a (blank) E-mail with the following in the 'address'
(to) field:
[log in to unmask]
That's it. Don't add anything else. Just hit the 'send' button. DON'T
put anything in the 'subject' field or in the 'message' field. (Notice
that the command 'unsubscribe' is contained in the 'address' itself.)
Notice, also, that this is precisely the same command that one uses to
'subscribe'--except that, to get off, one adds 'un' to that word 'subscribe.'
Please don't ask me to personally remove you from the list. It's easy for
you to remove yourself--per the simple command-line I've given you above.
>From my end, it's difficult and time-consuming. The list has grown too
large for me to take the time call up the roster, search for the individual
in question, and manually remove his listing.
Rest assured that the last thing any list owner wants--and certainly this
one --is to have on it a member who doesn't WANT to be there. A list's
success is measured not by the number of its inert subscribers but by the
number--and the QUALITY--of its CONTRIBUTING members.
Once you've sent the above 'unsubscribe' command, the software will
automatically remove you from this list--which of course means you will no
longer receive messages from it. (You can, however, rejoin at any time--by
removing the 'un' and resending the command.)
Suppose, however, that posts authored by me nonetheless continue to
somehow reach you? That means, presumably, that you and I both belong to
some OTHER list, one to which--as a member--I am free to post, as are you.
Here you will need to master the intricacies of the 'delete' button. When
you see my name, hit 'delete' and, presto, the offending post will be gone,
banished into the global ether. (You will not, I trust, ask me to resign
from whatever lists you happen to belong to.)
Alternatively, when you encounter my posts on some other list, you can of
course respond by setting out there your OWN opposing or differing policy
views, thus giving the members of that list the benefits of a side-by-side
comparison of our two contrasting programs. That, needless to say, is why
I post somewhat frequently to lists that address my own and related
subjects--to get empirical FEEDBACK from as many knowledeable scholars and
interested observers as possible. The poverty of nations--and the critical
first step of land-reform to address it--are serious subjects that deserve
the best thought the worldwide Internet can bring to bear on them.
