In Japanese I know. Through military exchanges, measles were
brought to Okinawa, which was under the US government then.
And in fact one high school for the deaf
was created to provide places for these deaf children.
The school was closed early 80's when these children graduated.
On this topic there is a serious comic by YAMAMOTO Osamu
entitled "Harukanaru Koshien" in ten volumes. It is about
deaf high school baseball players who were barred from
joining the national baseball chamionship tournament simply because
they were deaf. With the public pressure, the National
High School Baseball League was forced to let them
play in 1981, if I remember correctly.
