Dear members of dc-international,

A few announcements, and some questions. Since the December article in
D-Lib Magazine (see http://www.dlib.org/dlib/december98/12baker.html),
some new activities have begun:

-- Prof. Asuman Dogac of the Middle East Technical University in Ankara,
Turkey, has posted a Dublin Core in Turkish at
   http://www.srdc.metu.edu.tr/DublinCore.html (set your browser for
Turkish encoding). The METU Library is in touch with other libraries
in Turkey for opinions and feedback.

-- Researchers at the Library and Information Centre of the Institute
of Computer Science at the University of Brno have begun work on a
Dublin Core in Czech in cooperation with colleagues at other Czech
universities and libraries. The Ministry of Environment of the Czech
Republic has started work on a metadata clearinghouse for ministries,
   agencies, and local authorities.

-- There has been some talk of rendering Dublin Core in Ukrainian
   and Nepali.

-- Does anyone know the mailing address of -- and I hope I am spelling
this right -- Catalin Varuara of Romania? She attended ECDL98 in Crete
and indicated her interest in Dublin Core, but the address I wrote down,
[log in to unmask], seems to be incorrect.

-- The transition from the old dc-international list to the new one at
Mailbase is complete, although a few people who I know are interested
have yet to sign up. The list currently has 51 members (see below).

-- I have set aside some time this week to learn
the Mailbase software and would like to start a systematic
discussion of the position paper soon. I would much appreciate
hearing any opinions or advice from you on how this can best be
managed. Should I set up a structured issues list like the one
   at http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/dc-datamodel/files/issues.html?
Should we start discussions on all open issues simultaneously, or
take them one at a time?

Best regards,
Tom
