I was sure somebody else would answer, so I waited this long. I have
never used Themescape or the SPIRE system of which it is a visualization
sub-system, but I have read a lot on it, as part of my Ph.D. program
work on glyphs and icons in information visualization. There are many
place on the web with information on it.
The "home" of the SPIRE system and its 3D visualization themescape
subsystem (of information mountains and valleys) is the U.S.
government's Pacific Northwest Lab. The pages concerning SPIRE and
Themescape, which include the name and address of the current contact
person, are at:

If you want to place Themescape in the context of other visualization
software (some with demos, some not, some with prices in the hundreds of
dollars some with prices in the tens of thousands) go take a look at
this set of commented links, organized by Gerry McKiernan, a librarian
at Iowa State University.
http://www.public.iastate.edu/~CYBERSTACKS/BigPic.htm
I have checked them all a minute ago, and they are active and up to
date.
If you do not have web access, tell me and I will post back the adresses
of the contact and a short summary of Themescape featrues along with two
article citations on it.
By the way, I am currently looking at ways by which glyphs and icons
could be exploited to visualize nodes, text segments and entire
documents within qualitative analysis software. if any of you are doing
something cloes, please tell me.
Au revoir!
