Happy New Year everybody!
The following might be asking too much, but I give it a
try anyway...:
I am working on a thesis that deals with analysing the
content of several listserv archives in Japanese and
German language.
- Whereas the German should be no big problem im most
software packages, I suppose, I could not find any
reference to capability of Japanese (both for handling
the original text and for my own annotations) at any of the
sites listed in the CAQDAS packages list (and other lists).
Does anybody know about packages that can handle 2-byte
character codes?
- Another question concerns platforms. I would not like
to leave my Linux environment, but it seems most software
is written for DOS/Windows OS. Could anybody recommend
any Unix/Linux packages?
So far it looks like I will do the project (together with
a collegue who helps with programming) on the basis of writing
modes for my editor (emacs/mule) and several Perl scripts,
but still would appreciate to have less time consuming
alternatives.
- As I am also interested in finding out about the structure
of discussions on my lists I would be also very pleased
to hear about other peoples' experiences with analysing mailing list
discussions, either automated or manually. I have heard about some
network analysis tools especially for listservs, but don't know
their names.
Any suggestions by private mail are very welcome. I will post a
summary later.
Best regards,
Irene Langner
P.S.
I was pleased to hear about XML in the new ATLAS.ti version.
