Hello Everyone,
I have an opinion question for the room: Is modality use 'skilled
care'? I'm familiar with the APTA's and the various legal definitions of
skilled care regarding PTA services, which for the most part settle on the
application of hot / cold packs as the only non-skilled modality use, but
do modalities such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, etc. truly
require the skill and knowledge of a PT to apply? Of course, it should be
left up to PTs to decide when they are appropriate, but aren't PTAs
sufficiently qualified to apply these modalities?
I am in the beginning stages of an article on this subject, and
thought I would gage the listserv's opinion as a starting point. If you'd
like to respond to me personally, please e-mail [log in to unmask]
Thank you all for your time.
