If his comments are true then....
Glenn hoddle is in a position of power - such words coming from a person
with access to the media has to be more aware of what he thinks and says.
Saying what you feel - even if honest - without thinking about its affect
on other people is selfish and childish. It is not as if he appears open
to debate and willing to rethink his views.
People sadly do need to change their thinking - not for political
correctness, but because it means that some people
will enjoy a better, a more dignified and a more powerful life - like
mr hoddle.
There is more integrity in not commenting on something you know little
about and have the willingness and humility to listen and learn
from other people, then to espouse a lot of honest prejudice. I doubt if
he knows anythng about disability research - social model etc -
Glenn (not hoddle)
- ...re parking spaces...I was not advocating self-assessment - just
challenging that fact that some poltical action and laws (chaining
wheelchairs) can
reinforce stereotypes of disability. Taking poltical action with a
hidden disability is a little more tricky if you were to return to
your car only to find it chained to a wheelchair ! Such unthought through
action hardly makes life easier for
some disabled people and the general public to understand more complicated
impairments without people getting aggresive in parking slots -
